HERM, IN THE CHANNEL ISLANDS
British Crown Dependency
05.01.2022
I was staying in St. Peter Port on Guernsey in the Channel Islands, just off the
coast of France. The Channel Islands are a British Crown Dependency .There are
7 inhabited islands in the Channel Islands. Guernsey is the second largest island,
Herm is one of the smaller ones.. I took the ferry to Herm, from St. Peter Port. taking
about 15 minutes. The population is about 60. Walking away from the Herm harbour ,the
word Tranquility springs to mind. There is a peaceful path to Shell Beach. The
sand is formed by tiny shell fragments, which sparkle in the light. The beach is part
of the perimeter of the island which is nearly 4 miles. -- There is no resident
doctor on Herm, the Junior school as only 8 pupils under 11 years old. Over
11s go to St Peter Port..Cars and bicycles are banned on Herm . Tractors used by farmers and staff are allowed. The Fire Service
operates a tractor hauled fire tender.. Truly a beautiful island.
